Austin:

Perhaps you are ahead of your time. Look at the Impressionists who were kept out of Paris's Salon due to their innovative style. The lay person's mind is slow to catch up to the genius of new ways of interpreting the human condition. Monet spent his lifetime trying to capture light at different times of day, painting hundreds of the same landscape but with different lights. Art not only has to connect emotionally with people but there has to be something circumspect about it. I can go to a movie which grabs me emotionally but truly is not very deep nor introspective. Art transcends the way in which the mind normally comprehends things. It opens people up to a new way of perceiving life, but first, they have to be open to that experience. Many people have simply never been exposed to graphic novels. My brother gave me some a couple years ago, thinking he may inspire me to go that route as I am a cartoonist and a writer. I have yet to travel there, but it is not outside the realm of possibility. It would not deter me knowing that others do not embrace it as art, as it did not deter the Impressionists. One day someone will combine those mediums and shake the sofa sloths to the core...
